Barrage of attacks on Trump could backfire

My social media and news feeds are littered with people celebrating Donald Trump’s conviction and hurling all sorts of insults at the former U.S. president.

Piling on Trump might feel good in the moment, but I believe that those who direct vitriol at Trump with no intelligent supporting thought are unwittingly improving the likelihood that he will return to the White House this fall.

When you attack Donald Trump, you are in effect attacking many millions of people who believe that he is a preferred option over the incumbent Biden administration.

Trump is an easy target, particularly after a jury found him guilty yesterday on all 34 charges in a New York hush-money trial that many perceived as politically motivated.

But I believe that a lot of people will back Trump just to see the mean-spirited complainers put in their place.

A growing number of people would love to see the haters receive the ultimate punch in the nose – four more years of The Donald in the Oval Office.

A lot of U.S. voters are starting to see Trump as an over-persecuted victim. That could partially explain why polls have shown black voters increasingly siding with Trump –  Why are Black voters backing Donal Trump in record numbers?.

It seems that those who are jumping on the Trump-trashing bandwagon are unwittingly strengthening the resolve of Republicans and weakening the Democrats’ prospects for victory.

A politician on a proverbial sinking ship need not be thrown a lifejacket, but when you dance on someone’s deathbed, the consequences can be grave.
