Beyond the Hysteria – a data-driven examination of the COVID-19 pandemic

To say that COVID-19 is an important issue is, of course, an understatement. The disease has ended many lives and ruined countless more.

Differing perspectives on COVID-19 and how our elected and medical officials have reacted to the pandemic have ripped apart families, friendships, and communities.

Many have engaged in vitriolic debate without having anything resembling verifiable facts behind their arguments.

With the video linked here, I present an opportunity to ACTUALLY understand important facts about COVID-19. It is all backed up by easily verified government data.

Beyond the Hysteria – a data-driven examination of the COVID-19 pandemic

The video is of a presentation by renowned data scientist Laurie Weston in Victoria, B.C., called “Beyond the Hysteria – a data-driven examination of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

For many reasons, most notably data integrity, the analysis centres on the Canadian province of Alberta. However, regardless of where you live, we can all learn important lessons from Laurie’s careful data presentation and logical interpretation.

I am certain that you will be surprised by some of the data, no matter where you stand on the topic. You will also be left with a better understanding of standard mainstream media journalism, and how it differs from responsible, accurate analysis.

If you listen to the World Health Organization or the U.S.-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, you might believe that the high number of excess deaths in the first year of the pandemic were from COVID and lack of access to medical services. The data says otherwise.

Before your next heated discussion about COVID-19, take the time to take in Laurie’s talk. It will be time very well spent.
